This course was presented to us by GEMA. It discusses the hazards of lithium-ion batteries, and how the rapid identification of hazards can assist you with the quick application of the right tactics to help you successfully mitigate the scene. This PowerPoint will go into great detail of the dangers of batteries, from your cell phone, vehicles, to power plants. Along with this course, there will be a guide book sent out to all stations that should be placed on the engines, squads, rescue, and Battalion vehicle. This guide book will help you in coming up with a plan of action as well as letting you know what equipment is needed. It works just like the ERG, but is very user friendly. Another PowerPoint discusses battery basics and hazards. There is a third PowerPoint as well that discusses how to use a fire blanket for EV car fires. Currently, we do not carry one of these, but the Fayetteville does, and you might get asked to help. I encourage you to take the time to look over this PowerPoint and guidebook. Train as a company, and you will be able to get 2 hours of HAZMAT training for the year.

This training is for you to do on your own or with your crew. We are all Hazmat Awareness/Ops certified, however, we do not practice these skills on a daily basis. This training will get you into the ERG and get you familiar with how to use it. Please take the time to review this material multiple times through the year to get yourself ready for that once in a blue moon call.

Transportation Community Awareness Emergency Response provides in-person and online HazMat training.  It is free to sign up and there are various online topics including chlorine emergencies, anhydrous ammonia, and flammable liquids amongst others.  The courses will provide you with CEUs towards your six (6) hours a year and a certificate.

This is an onlne course by the IAFC on propane emergencies.
